ABOUT THE ROLE

As Director of R&D, you will drive our technical direction and execution. Your mission is to lead and scale a motivated, collaborative, and autonomous team that delivers reliable, scalable AI products in radiology. You’ll report directly to the CEO and work closely with the Director of Product and other leadership team members.

This role combines technical leadership with operational oversight. You bring deep technical expertise, a strategic mindset, and (at least basic) knowledge of radiology workflows. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and are passionate about building real-world products that make a clinical impact.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
LEADERSHIP
  • Lead, scale, and support a high-performing tech team across software, ML, and infrastructure.
  • Mentor senior engineers and team leads, define growth paths, and establish fair, motivating compensation frameworks.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, learning, and collaboration across the technical organization.
  • Ensure smooth cross-functional collaboration with product, regulatory, support and commercial teams.
  • Support recruitment in collaboration with HR and help position the company as a top tech employer.
TECH STRATEGY & VISION
  • Define and communicate the company’s technical vision in collaboration with the CEO and Director of Product.
  • Own and evolve the technology roadmap, balancing innovation, scalability, and technical debt.
  • Set and manage clear goals (e.g., OKRs) to guide engineering and ML efforts effectively.
  • Keep up with trends in ML, software, and healthcare IT to inform long-term strategy.
  • Represent technical direction and milestones to external stakeholders (e.g., partners, investors).
OPERATIONS
  • Oversee implementation of tools, workflows, and best practices for software and ML development.
  • Ensure software quality, security, and compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., MDR, FDA).
  • Ensure efficient development cycles, high software quality, and minimized technical debt and security risks
  • Manage selected external collaborations and workflow integrations in the clinical ecosystem.
YOUR BACKGROUND
We’re looking for a leader who combines technical excellence with strong communication and team leadership skills.

MANDATORY SKILLS
  • 3+ years of experience applying machine learning to imaging data, with a strong software development background.
  • 2+ years of leadership experience in building and managing technical teams in a fast-paced or growth-stage environment.
  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality, production-ready ML/AI products.
  • Proficiency in agile workflows and managing projects with measurable outcomes.
  • Strong communication skills, including moderation, conflict resolution, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Strategic thinking,resilience under pressure and being able to focus teams on what matters.
  • Scientific mindset and experience with research evaluation or publication in AI/ML.
DESIRED SKILLS
  • PhD or advanced degree in machine learning, computer science, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience with Python and cloud infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with radiology workflows, medical imaging (e.g., DICOM), or healthcare IT standards.
  • Experience with regulatory frameworks (MDR, FDA) and quality systems (e.g., ISO 13485).
  • Experience mentoring engineers and supporting career growth across different levels.
  • Experience with large language models (LLMs), including fine-tuning or integration into products, is a strong plus.
